Dieses Jahr reizte es mich besonders, da es zum ersten Mal ein Marathon mit 4.200hm war.

After the victory of the "Tour de Kärnten" and the "Glocknerkönig" I was highly motivated.

Carmen und ich waren schon eine Woche vorher für 1 Tag zur Streckenbesichtigung im Kaunertal. Zuerst die Anstiege zum Kaunerberg Richtung Imst und dann der Kaunerberg von Landeck aus. Zum Schluss hoch zum Gletscher.

Oh, gut das ich mir DAS angeschaut habe.

Soweit so gut. Die Vorbereitungen liefen entspannt.

Eine Woche später am Start war auch eine ganz entspannte Stimmung.
Yes, I enjoyed that. Neutralized, we rolled out of the valley until the first climb, everyone was a bit restrained because we all had respect for the route. I took the lead to decimate the top group, but everything was very subdued, since last week I knew how hard it would end up. After Kaunerberg we drove via Imst to Landeck.

Oh Mann, die Strecke war echt gewaltig schön und sonnig – Ich liebe sonnig, falls das noch keiner bemerkt hat. So, von Landeck aus befuhren wir nun 2 Mal den Kaunerberg. Ich versuchte die Spitzengruppe nochmals kleiner zu machen. Das klappte sehr gut, da waren wir nur noch 6. Ab in die Abfahrt und rein ins Tal Richtung Gletscher.

Die erste Attacke: Thomas Gschnitzer löste sich und zog alleine davon.

Dann kam der See.
I knew exactly that now it was only going to the finish. I sat back in the first position and lo and behold, one was already bursting away. Michael Spögler, who doesn't like to lead, hung on my rear wheel until we caught up with Thomas Gschnitzer again.

Ich fuhr meinen Stiefel weiter und zog direkt an Thomas vorbei. Als ich mich nach 2 Minuten umdrehte, war niemand mehr hinter mir. „Ja, spinn ich denn, was ist da los?“. Ich schaute weit zurück, Michael und Thomas waren ca. 800m hinter mir. „Ok, geil.“

Konstant fuhr ich meine 300 Watt, mehr ging nicht. Der Vorsprung wurde immer größer. Ich freute mich, wusste aber auch dass es ab jetzt immer härter wird. Runter auf 280 Watt, der Anstieg war echt der Horror. „Oh, Mann die Stecke zieht sich.“ Langsam wurde mir schwindlig, am SRM waren konstant 280 Watt zu lesen. Plötzlich sah ich es vor mir, endlich, das Ziel.

Ich rettete mich noch über die Linie und sah eine gepolsterte Absperrung.
With the last of my strength I dragged myself until then, leaned against it, clicked in and in the saddle, and just wanted to sleep. Everything turned. The audience ran towards me and patted my shoulder, took photos. I couldn't move, I was just done. Finally Sissi (our gold treasure in the team) came and threw a blanket over me. 5 minutes later I could finally click out of the pedals and drag myself around.

30 Minuten später weilte ich wieder unter den Lebenden – Scheiße, das war mal richtig hart.
